Speaking Test Document
Speaking Test is evolving into a comprehensive AI-driven language assessment and feedback platform. This update focuses on high-fidelity audio feedback, automated teacher workflows, and immersive student practice modes.
1. Content & Asset Management
- Original Audio & TTS Integration: Teachers can now upload their own “Reference” audio clips or use integrated Text-to-Speech (TTS) to generate high-quality pronunciation models for any text.
- CSV Bulk Upload: Support for uploading up to 100 words/phrases simultaneously via CSV to eliminate manual entry.
- AI Word-List Generator: Teachers input a topic (e.g., “Business Meeting”); the system uses OpenAI to generate 10 relevant phrases with phonetic spellings.
- Difficulty Scaling: One-click generation of “Beginner,” “Intermediate,” and “Advanced” versions of tests based on phonetic complexity and word length.
2. Advanced Audio-Visual Feedback Tools
- Rich Feedback Dashboard: Teachers can provide multi-modal feedback beyond numeric scores:
- Voice Annotations: Record “Correction Clips” that appear next to the student’s attempt.
- Text Notes: Add short context or tips next to specific test words.
- Timestamps & Waveform Highlighting: Interactive waveforms where teachers can click specific segments to leave targeted notes (e.g., “Extra vowel sound here”).
- Dual Waveform Visualizer: Utilizes to display the teacher’s reference waveform on top and the student’s below. Students can visually track rhythm, stress, and volume “peaks.”
3. Student Practice & Assessment Modes
- Listen & Repeat: A guided mode where the student must listen to the teacher’s reference clip before the record button is enabled.
- “Shadowing” Visualizer: A real-time visual interface for the shadowing technique, where students repeat audio immediately as they hear it.
- Exam Mode (Anti-Cheat): A “One-Shot” recording setting that locks the widget after a single attempt, specifically designed for mid-terms and finals.
- Randomized “Live” Tests: Pulls number of random words from a larger “Question Bank” (e.g., 10 words from 50) to prevent memorization of word order.
4. AI & Automation
- AI-Powered Contextual Roleplay: Moves beyond static words into scenarios (e.g., Waiter vs. Customer). OpenAI analyzes both pronunciation accuracy and social appropriateness (e.g., using “May I” instead of “I want”).
- Automated Spaced Repetition (SRS):
- Review Queue: Low-accuracy (“Red”) words are automatically added to a “Daily Review” for 3 days.
- Mastery Score: Words are marked “Completed” only after scoring 90%+ on three separate days.
5. Teacher Efficiency & Reporting
- Priority Grading Inbox:
- AI-Flagged for Review: Smart filters highlight recordings with scores below 60% or those with more than 5 attempts.
- Bulk Actions: A rapid-fire interface to listen to 2-second clips and “Pass/Fail” with a single click.
- Automated Reporting:
- Weekly Summaries: Automated emails to parents or students containing average accuracy scores and a link to their “Best Recording” of the week.
